Petition Action

Make UK a 40hr, 4day working week.

Petition Details

Instead of working an 8hr day 5 days a week, a 10hr day 4 days a week.
It would mean that there is greater possibility for overtime if desired, greater productivity in uk as a whole, the creation of new job vacancies and the improvement of happiness/wellbeing/wealth of society.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because people's working patterns aren't the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament. This is the responsibility of individual employers.

The maximum amount of hours worked during a week is set by law. You could start a new petition prohibiting people from working more than 40 hours or more than 4 days a week if that is something you would like to see happen.
