Reduce the Smear Test Age from 25 to 18
According to CRUK, ladies are most likely to survive Cervical cancer between the ages of 15-35. We can’t be screened for it until we are 25.The smear test helps detect abnormal and cancerous cells. It could be the most important few minutes of your life.
Why should we wait until we’re 25?
In 2017, at the age of 23, I was diagnosed with grade 3 cervical cancer and a mixed neuroendocrine tumour.
Consequent treatments, (including chemo, radio and brachytherapy), have left me infertile and I began the menopause when I was 24.
If we can have sex from the age of 16, if we can use tampons from the age we begin our periods; we should be allowed to have a smear from a younger age too.
