Allow schools that have become academies to return to Local Authority governance
Once a school has become an academy, should the academy trust struggle or fail, the only current option is for the school to be handed to another academy trust.
Parents, teachers & the local community have no say.
There is no local democratic oversight or scrutiny.
The office of the Regional School’s Commissioner (RSC) is powerful but unelected and unaccountable to local communities.
It is undemocratic that the RSC can influence or instruct a change of academy sponsor without parents, teachers & the local community having any say.
We call on the Secretary of State for Education & UK government to change policy so that academy schools can return to Local Authority governance where parents, teachers and the local community support that course of action.
