Keep May Day Monday as a bank holiday, with an extra VE Day holiday on 8th May.
The 75th Anniversary of VE Day should be celebrated with its own special, one-off holiday on Friday 8th May in addition to the May Day bank holiday on Monday 4th May.
We should properly celebrate the 75 years of peace in Western Europe, and European unity against common threats, with a special holiday. Stealing the early May Day holiday is a cheap, unworthy way of commemorating the sacrifices that led to VE Day. This late change would also disrupt schools, other institutions, businesses and private arrangements already in place for the 4th May 2020.
