Give TV users the option to block BBC channels to avoid fee.

Petition Details

If you don't watch BBC channels you should be able to block receiving them therefore making you exempt from paying a TV license. Currently we don't have that option. If you subscribe to Sky, Virgin etc you have to pay for a particular package and all others are blocked so it can be done.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because paying the TV licence doesn't depend on whether you watch BBC channels or not. The law requires everyone with a television to pay the TV licence so blocking BBC channels would not exempt people from the licence fee.

You could sign this petition if you would like the BBC to be privatised and turned into an opt-in subscription service instead:
