UK Government must act to stop illegal entry of asylum seekers into the UK.
Under European law, the Dublin Regulation, requires that asylum seekers have their asylum claim registered in the first country they arrive in, and that the decision of the first EU country they apply in, is the final decision in all EU countries.
The Dublin Regulation (EU) No.604/2013(‘Dublin III’) establishes the criteria, mechanisms for determining which EU county is responsible for examining applications for international protection. It aims to prevent ‘asylum shopping’, where individuals move between countries to seek the most attractive regime, and where no single country permits access to asylum procedures. It reflects the principle that those seeking international protection should seek asylum in the first safe country they reach.
