Remove fossil fuel subsidies and cease support of fracking in the UK
The UK has declared a climate emergency and has committed to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Carrying on subsidising fossil fuels is inconsistent with this commitment and will make it more difficult to achieve net zero emissions.
We propose that the Treasury should remove all fossil fuel subsidies, both implicit and explicit, at the next budget. For avoidance of doubt, this would include the removal of any tax breaks designed to support the industry.
