Petition Details

Bill Tutte worked at Bletchley Park and was the person who broke the German Lorenz code which enabled messages from senior german officials (including Hitler) to be deciphered. It is estimated that his work reduced the length of the war by at least 2 years and saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because it asks for someone to be nominated for an honour.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government and Parliament to reform the honours system, so that knighthoods can be awarded posthumously.
