Petition Action

In the summer put posters outside supermarkets warning not to leave dogs in cars

Petition Details

Police are called out to countless incidents of dogs left in hot cars whilst owners shop. Let's make it impossible for people to claim ignorance to the health risks they are subjecting their animals to. Displaying a warning that police will be called and windows smashed if dogs are left unattended.

Additional Information

"When it's 22 degrees, in a car it can reach an unbearable 47 degrees within the hour." (RSPCA 2019)
"Every year, PETA receives reports about dogs, cats, and other animals who have died after being left in hotcars or outside during the summer months. Fifty-eight animals endured hot weather–related deaths in 2018 alone—and those are just the ones that were reported." (PETA, 7 Jun 2018)

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This would be a decision for supermarkets and not the UK Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to fund an awareness raising campaign that highlights the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars, if that's something you'd like to see happen.
