Campaign against Rail fare price increases

Additional Information

That this petition notes the crippling fare rises in 2012 for long suffering commuters and further notes that:

• Rail fares in Britain are approximately 30% higher than their equivalents in Europe

• In some areas of the country, people spend a fifth of their salary on commuting to work

• Inflation busting rises are in contrast to current wage stagnation

• Train companies continue to operate with poor performance

The Government should:

• Limit fare rises until wages start increasing and restrict future rises so they are in line with inflation

• Be prepared to tax rail operating companies who make large profits on the back of high increases and poor performance
