Fern's Law: Update the current pet microchip system which fails missing pets
Stolen Fern was reunited after 6 years because she was picked up as a stray. Many missing pets are never reunited as it’s left optional as best practice by the veterinary professionals, authorities and rescues to check pet & keeper match on the original database or on their first appointment.
Updates needed: Check all pet microchip registration on original database & make sure contact info is up to date: check with registered keeper before euthanasia/rehoming. One microchip number on one database. Databases must contact original keeper before changing registration. When chip is scanned the keeper must be contacted immediately. Deceased & injured pets on roads & railways must be checked for a microchip. Immediate reunification when missing pet is scanned. www.VetsGetScanning.co.uk
