Love Island - a new law that restricts socially harmful television programmes

Petition Details

An entirely new piece of legislature that restricts television programmes that are deemed to be socially harmful.
TV programmes, the most prominent being Love Island, are detrimental to certain types of viewers. It presents a negative approach to body image and an unrealistic and, negative "love".

Additional Information

Teen viewers and adults alike are presented with a socially harmful viewing of the "perfect body" this has, along with the influence of social media, contributed to thousands of young people to starve themselves, self harm and have extremely low self esteem.
There is only 1 kind of body shown on Love Island, which has infinite implications about both the self, and love.
People should not be promoting this kind of show if we should hope to help better society and bring about positive mindsets.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

OFCOM already has a responsibility to protect viewers and listeners from harmful or offensive material on TV, radio and on-demand. We aren't sure what additional protections you'd like the Government or Parliament to put in place.

You can find out more about how OFCOM investigate complaints about TV programmes here:

www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-on-demand/how-to-report-a-complaint

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
