Increase the penalty for using a mobile phone behind the wheel to include a ban
I commute to work by cycle, as it is better for the environment, keeps me fit and helps to cut congestion. I also cycle between 60-100 miles each Sunday for enjoyment. However, I have had numerous near misses by motorists using their mobile phones whilst driving.
I wear a camera. I have submitted footage to Lancashire Police only to be told it isn't in the public interest to prosecute, as the Police are far too busy. This is even when I have supplied HD footage showing mobile phone use whilst driving.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The courts can already impose a driving or riding ban for driving or riding while using a hand-held telephone, so we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. You can find out more about the penalties available here:

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
You might like to sign this petition, which calls for a minimum 6 month driving ban for mobile phone use whilst driving:
