Give Dr A Varma due recognition for starting the prescription pick up programme
In 1977 a pharmacist -Mr Clumpus-in Ormskirk was struggling. The GPs were not sending him prescriptions. He went to see the new GP -Dr Varma -who told him to send someone round to pick up the repeat prescriptions. Patients were told they'd be ready in 2-3 days and loved it. Others followed suit.
This programme has been duplicated nationwide saving patients nationwide a lot of time and inconvenience. Yet Dr Varma has never been recognised for initiating this. We ask that he be fully recognised by the government for this.
