Petition Action

Raise Minimum Wage and Universal Credit for under 25s to the same as over 25s

Petition Details

It is unfair for those under 25 working the same job as an over 25 and receive less money. Already our younger generations are at a disadvantage when the cost of living is extortionate.
By equalising the minimum wage and universal credit, more people will spend more which will benefit the economy.

Additional Information

Currently, the age classifications are archaic & need to be abolished.
The minimum wage currently is:
25 and over- £8.21
21 to 24- £7.70
18 to 20- £6.15
Under 18- £4.35
Universal Credit Single Claimant Basic Allowance currently is:
Under 25: £251.77 per month
25 or over: £317.82 per month
Independent companies should be supported by the government afterwards if they struggle to pay their staff. It would also allow job seekers at any age to be on an equal playing field when applying for a job.
