That reality TV shows have to make accessible the results of public votes
Reality TV plays a key part in the lives of many people and shows such as Love Island claim'reality' and to be directed by the votes of the general public, but are they correct to do this? Should a public service broadcaster be honest and accountable bearing in mind the potential for damage.
Previous year's contestants have revealed that all may not be as claimed in terms of the balance between 'reality' and 'direction'.
Social media discussion will often credit the 'producers' with a plot twist, even when this has been supposedly caused by a public vote.
The Jeremy Kyle Show crossed the line by manipulating its guests without thought of the consequences and is now under investigation.
Transparency and accountability are essential to prevent further disasters.
