GMB, the trade union for security workers, represents guards working in areas of high risk, such as job centres and shopping centres where there has been a sharp increase of incidents being reported involving knifes and other sharp objects, in one case a samurai sword.

Additional Information

The Government should require, as part of its security licencing regime, that all frontline security officers are provided with a stab vest as part of their employment.

Over 95% of members surveyed said it was not acceptable that they are treated differently. When asked the question "Would you wear a lightweight stab vest as part of your normal PPE if your employer provided this free of charge?", 76% of responders said they would welcome this.
