Petition Action

Stop the NHS BUSINESS AUTHORITY from fining people on benefits for wrong claims

Petition Details

After losing my job after 14yrs I was told I would have to sign on for the 1st time ever and claim Jobseeker’s Allowance to which I thought I was eligible for free nhs treatment so 2 months after my treatment I received a fine plus the treatment cost instead of notifying me I owed them money

Additional Information

I have worked for the majority of my life until feb 1st 2019 when I lost my job and had to sign on and claim Jobseeker’s Allowance (contributions) to which the job centre “advisor” did not make me aware of what I could claim for and not claim for ie. nhs treatments I got a letter today nhs penalty charge notice 2 months after treatment with no prior warning to tell me I was not eligible for this and would be charged it’s a disgrace no understanding from the NHS nor Job centre. Let’s stop this!!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure whether you want to abolish all Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) for people who claim free NHS prescriptions when ineligible, or change the eligibility rules or make them clearer in some way.

The eligibility rules are set out here:

contactcentreservices.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/selfnhsukokb/AskUs_HWHC/en-gb/8202/qualifying-benefits/31018/which-benefits-entitle-me-to-free-nhs-prescriptions

If you were entitled to a free prescription, or had an exceptional reason not to pay, you can challenge a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). You can find out how to challenge your PCN here:

www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pay-or-challenge-penalty-charge-notice

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
