Petition Action

Amend the Rome Statute to restore the crime of Ecocide.

Petition Details

Our Parliament & many Councils across the country have declared a Climate Emergency.

The Amazon Forest is now being felled at a record rate & other devastating practices continue to destroy our Ecosystem.

Additional Information

The Government must work with other countries for an International Law to stop the damage & destruction of the Planet.

Polly Higgins worked tirelessly on this yet it is not widely known that "Ecocide" was in the original draft of the Rome Statute as the 5th Crime against Humanity. Its removal was objected to by many of the signatories of the Statute in 1996 so that should mean the request to reinstate it will now be agreed.

There are a number of 'TED' Talks by Polly Higgins which eloquently describe her work & what is required to be done.
