Petition Action

Require corrections to media articles to have same prominence as original item.

Petition Details

The public is being let down frequently by the media with items that mislead or are plainly false. Where a complaint to the IPSO is upheld retractions/corrections should have equal prominence to the original article.

Additional Information

It is all to common for a front page of a newspaper to make an exaggerated claim, and when challenged print a correction in an obscure location in the publication. If corrections to front page sensationalist claims were also printed on the front page, it might instill in the mind of the editor a greater need for accuracy and honesty in the first place. At a time when we need honest information more than ever we deserve better.
