Introduce regulations which increases accountability for social media users
The power of social media has been demonstrated dramatically in recent years. The world is changing and the power of social media to impose influence and spread hate has outpaced legislation. Anonymous accounts, fake profiles and "bots" pose a serious threat to citizens of the United Kingdom.
Gambling style legislation is needed to be introduced to ensure that all account holders are verified prior to having social media accounts, which will prevent multiple anonymous accounts. Social media users need to be held accountable for the words they publish in order to make it easier for the police to trace and hold to account those accounts which break the law and spread hate and propaganda.
Action is needed as has been demonstrated by the racial abuse aimed at Messrs Abraham & Pogba.
