Fund £159m gap in councils homelessness service budgets so no child is homeless.
Anne Longfield-The Childrens Commissioner says 210,000 children are estimated homeless in the UK in 2019.Local Government Association housing spokesman Martin Tett highlighted a £159m funding gap in councils' homelessness services budgets. This petition calls on the govt. to fund this gap.
This information was reported in a BBC article on the 21st August 2019. In addition to 210k homeless right now the report warns a further 375k children in England are in households that have fallen behind on rent or mortgage payments. This means thousands more are at financial risk of becoming homeless in the future.
The report, entitled Bleak Houses, states children are being housed in shipping containers - this shouldn't happen in the UK in 2019. Please allocate the funds required.
