Petition Action

Create a Recruitment and Employment Ombudsman Service to enforce employment laws

Petition Details

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the creation of a Recruitment and Employment Ombudsman Service, independent from the Government, to oversee the policing of all applicable Employment Laws in relation to recruitment, and to provide advice and assistance to recruiters and candidates.

Additional Information

People who are dismissed from employment for unfair or unlawful reasons have redress through the Employment Tribunals Service.

However, every day, people are rejected for employment for the same unfair or unlawful reasons. Yet they have no form of redress. This means that employers effectively have free rein to ignore Employment Laws in relation to recruitment.

This is why a dedicated Recruitment and Employment Ombudsman Service is desperately needed.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

People who feel they have been discriminated against in job applications already have redress in law. Citizens Advice has published some information abut people's legal rights in this situation. You can find out more here:

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/work/discrimination-at-work/checking-if-its-discrimination/if-you-think-youve-been-unfairly-treated-when-applying-for-a-job/

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
