UK public referendum on the government's planned £32bn spend, 14 year project for 14 minutes

Additional Information

I believe the UK public deserve to have a referendum to approve the government’s decision to spend £32bn on a high speed railway that will reduce journey time from London to Birmingham by 14 minutes.

The time saving is not equivalent to £32bn, an amount required to replace entire UK copper wire network and install "Fibre Optic to the Premise" Broadband.

In the modern day where business can be conducted via the internet e.g. Skype, this investment would create more jobs than the new railway, benefit the entire UK populous rather than commuters from Birmingham to London and not take 14 years to build.
