Petition Action

Declare the Sino-British Joint Declaration Null and Void

Petition Details

Given the recent events in Hong Kong with clear evidence of interference from the Chinese government in local affairs, we are no longer confident that the Sino-British Joint Declaration is being upheld by China. The UK Government must immediately declare the Joint Declaration null and void.

Additional Information

The Sino-British Joint Declaration states that Hong Kong SAR will "enjoy a high degree of autonomy". Multiple events and news coverage over recent years has cast a shadow of doubt of whether this is truly the case in Hong Kong. The Chinese government has even stated that the Joint Declaration is a "historical document" that no longer applies.
