The role of speaker should be strictly impartial and without fear or favour.
The current tradition of electing a speaker is flawed and undemocratic! Balances & checks are required to ensure the incumbent remains impartial at all times. The selection and accountability criteria of the incumbent should be reviewed by an independent board appointed randomly from all parties.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you mean by the election of a speaker being undemocratic and what you would like to change.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
