Petition Action

The leader of the house must apologise to Dr David Nicholl.

Petition Details

Jacob Rees-Mogg compared a consultant, who helped draw up no-deal medical plans, to the disgraced anti-vaxxer Andrew Wakefield. Rees-Mogg has abused parliamentary privilege, under which MPs cannot be sued for comments made in the Commons.

Additional Information

Comparing Dr Nichols to Wakefield is going too far and is frankly unacceptable. Doctors are amongst the most trusted experts and specialists in our country. This is another attack on experts just because they disagree with the government.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the statements of individual MPs and Ministers. However you might like to know that the Leader of the House has subsequently apologiesed to Dr Nicholl
