Parliament to specify to courts when & how Acts such as Human Rights and Data Protection should be used
European Human Rights, Data Protection and Health & Safety legislation is produced by Parliament with the best intentions.
Unfortunately, these laws are being used by courts, local government and companies in situations for which they are not intended.
For example, Health & Safety legislation was supposed to protect workers' lives but seems to be used by local government to protect themselves against being sued.
Human Rights legislation was intended to protect the helpless against abuse by the powerful, not to stop the media from snapping celebrity wedding photos.
Misuse of legislation causes people to call for the legislation to be scrapped. This diminishes the legislation and those that created it.
To ask the Goverment to produce clear guidance on the circumstances in which a specific law should be used.
