Change the law to stop students being allowed to vote twice in local elections.

Petition Details

Presently, if a student's home and university addresses are in two different local authority areas, they can vote in local elections in both areas. This is illogical and allows for potential vote fraud to be carried out in general elections and elsewhere. This practice must end immediately.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure how you want the law to change because, while it is legal to be registered in more than one area, it is already illegal for anyone, including students, to vote twice in the same election, such as in a UK general election.

It is legal to vote in the local elections of two separate local councils if you live in, and are registered in, two different areas. This applies to everyone, not only students. You can find out more here:
