Prevent parties selecting a candidate against the Speaker of the House
The government is attempting to circumvent Parliament as they don’t agree with their policies. This is against a sovereign Parliaments wishes and democracy.
Andrea Leadsom has confirmed that the conservatives will pitch a candidate against the Speaker’s seat/constituency against precedent.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
By convention, the major parties do not field candidates against the Speaker of the House in a general election, but this is a matter for them rather than the Government or Parliament as a whole.
In any case, Mr Speaker has announced his intention to step down at the next election or on 31 October 2019, whichever is sooner.
