Petition Action

CCTV to be mandatory in all UK abattoirs with independent 24 hr monitoring.

Petition Details

CCTV is only mandatory in England, This should be extended to all the UK with independent monitoring of all slaughter to ensure that animals are not allowed to recover after stunning, to prevent ineffective stunning and to ensure that animals are not cruelly treated

Additional Information

Theresa May asserted that CCTV in abattoirs was sufficient to protect animals. There is no legislation for CCTV in Scotland, Wales and NI. Abattoirs are required to keep footage for 90 days and make images available for government inspectors however we have no information regarding how much footage is monitored or whether abuse has led to prosecution
