Referenda affecting the Constitution should have a Super Majority in favour.
The 2016 European Referendum was too important to be decided on a simple majority. The 52% to 48% majority was too fine a result on which to decide to come out of the European Union.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what majority you had in mind. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
There's already a petition about referenda requiring a 5% winning margin for action.
You might like to sign this petition if it calls for something you'd like to happen
