Petition Action

Charge for paper documents, same as supermarkets charge for plastic bags

Petition Details

Every year, paper is wasted by banks, insurance, and pension providers. Phone and internet companies sending out useless bits of paper with Bills and statements when all companies have online services now.

Additional Information

With supermarkets having to charge for reusable plastic bags, these companies should be made to charge for all the wasteful bits of paper we all stick in a file or in a draw never to be seen again.

The money collected from these charges should be put to good use to help plant more trees in the uk, and help other environmental causes around the country.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular we're not sure exactly which paper items you're concerned about or who would pay the charge.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, for example to ban the distribution by post of paper leaflets.
