Reduce the voting age to 16.
We are a group of Year 11 students from Hornsey School for Girls and we believe that the voting age should be lowered to 16 because young people should have a say in the future of our country.
Issues like climate change are so important that we feel that everyone in society should have a say.
75% of 16 and 17 year olds voted in the Scottish independence referendum - higher than 18-24 year olds and evidence that young people can boost turnout in elections and other votes.
16 year olds can:
marry
join the army
consent to sex
pay taxes
get a job
Why shouldn't they be able to affect our parliament and our councils, our referendums and our mayors?
