CONTROL TARGETED POLITICAL ADVERTISING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Petition Details

An election or referendum may be imminent. Democracy requires an open and level playing field. NOT targeted and secret "dark manipulation" on social media, playing on emotions, spreading untruths without public scrutiny.
Legal controls are urgently needed to control such abuse.

Additional Information

BBC News reports that the Conservative Party has been selectively targeting Facebook users by age group with political 'Brexit' messaging.
This is the tip of an iceberg.
Article 22(1) of the GDPR strictly restricts use of profiling. Political parties must be compelled to comply with a legally enforceable Code of Conduct. Targeting by age, social, economic, regional or political groupings must be banned, All advertising material must be made available for full public scrutiny.
