Retailers should reserve at least 2 job vacancies per store for 16-17 year olds
It is very difficult for 16-17s to find jobs and step into the business world. Many students are rejected for job placements due to college timetables or age but are also rejected by some universities for lack of work experience. Of retailers reserve vacancies for 16/17s this can be easily prevented
If retailers reserve 2 vacancies for 16-17 year olds it means they can choose a specific role which allows the student to be flexible and work around their college timetable but still gain experience as well as a bit of money and responsibility.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It's currently illegal to treat an employee or prospective employee unfairly because of their age or because they are part of a particular age group. We aren't sure exactly how you'd like the law to change.
You could start a new petition asking the Government to provide increased funding for apprenticeships and employment employment programmes aimed at getting young people into work, if that's something you'd like to see happen.
