Petition Action

Abolition of parliament and the house of lords and replace with electronic vote

Petition Details

The current parliamentary system is outdated, the elected and non elected representatives are failing to represent the citizens of the United Kingdom and Gibraltar.
The technology currently exists for a secure electronic system to be implemented for citizens, allowing for a democratic society.

Additional Information

The vote for The European Union Referendum Act 2015 was carried, MPs voted by 544 to 53 in favour of the bill. And subsequent readings were also carried by the majority. In the referendum there were 382 voting areas, a total of 263 returned majority votes in favour of "Leave" and a total vote result Leave: 17,410,742 (51.9%) Remain: 16,141,241 (48.1%).
Parliament then voted to trigger article 50 by 498 votes to 114

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you mean by "Abolition of parliament and the house of lords and replace with electronic vote", in particular we aren't sure whether you'd like to introduce electronic voting or whether you'd like to introduce a new type of system involving direct democracy.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
