Petition Action

Increase cyclist safety by putting the responsibility on drivers.

Petition Details

Drivers do not provide cyclists with enough room or take the responsibility for the cyclists safety, they daily/freely intimidate and bully, abuse, cyclists with no respect. If a cyclist is struck by a vehicle or if a driver uses aggressive or dangerous driving they should be held to account in law.

Additional Information

Cyclist are road users and are carbon neutral, you should not have to be made to feel that by using the road as a cyclist you are trespassing. They should be encouraged and supported to the full extent if the law especially in the countryside and city centres where cycle lanes are not always possible. As a car driver and cyclist the uk roads and laws are not at the needed standard, and drivers need to be educated and held to account when driving recklessly near cyclists or aggressively.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

There are already laws on careless and dangerous driving which apply, including in relation to incidents involving cyclists, so we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
