Create legislation to enable the UK electorate to call for a general election.
At present a vote of no confidence can only be called by parliament, leaving parliament in an almost untouchable position. This means that serving governments can be forced to break promises and go against the will of the UK electorate at any time.
Citizens should be able to hold the government to account at all times, not just during General Elections. The law needs to be changed so that a petition of 'no confidence' to parliament, containing the signatures of at least 51% of the population means a General Election is immediately called.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
