Petition Action

No tax avoidance for Newspaper owners

Petition Details

Currently, the owners of our newspapers use aggressive tax avoidance schemes. Newspapers already have 0% VAT rate. This is an extremely serious conflict of interest as newspapers will avoid reporting tax avoidance by large multinationals and extremely wealthy individuals, including themselves.

Additional Information

In particular, owners should not be entitled to non domiciled resident status. All shareholders of newspapers should be expected to pay tax with no avoidance whatsoever.
The British press is already least trusted in the EU: https://www.pressgazette.co.uk/survey-finds-that-uk-written-press-is-by-some-way-the-least-trusted-in-europe/
If this petition becomes law, this will go a long way into remedying that.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
