Petition Action

Duty on fireworks.

Petition Details

There is already a lot of pressure on the emergency services and a specific duty that could be directed to the areas most needing assistance would help to take some pressure off. Also might have the impact of reducing the impact of fireworks misuse as would increase the cost.

Additional Information

There is precedence in the form of duty on Cigarettes due their impact on the NHS.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure whether you want an Excise Duty on the manufacture of fireworks, a Customs Duty on imported fireworks or an increased rate of Value Added Tax.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
