Amend IPP post-tariff legislation to prevent it breaching the ECHR.
The Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence was abolished in 2012. However, thousands of ex-offenders within the UK are still suffering from the conditions that this sentence imposed regardless of this sentence no longer constituting any statute within the UK's domestic legal system.
In James, Wells and Lee v UK ECHR 340(2012), the judgment given unanimously held that "the applicants detention following the expiry of the minimum terms in their indeterminate sentences for the public protection (IPPs)", breached ECHR Article 5(1)(right to liberty and security).
