Any MP changing political party must mandatedly face a bye election.
MP's are elected on a party manifesto. If they decide to change parties they are no longer representing the will of the people who elected them. Therefore there should be an automatic bye election in which they may stand as a representative of their new party and face the electorate on that basis.
