Petition Action

Make Local Heritage Asset Listings compulsory in all Local Authorities

Petition Details

This petition started in the village of Pett, East Sussex, to help save two ancient route-ways from development. Not all Local Authorities have a Local Heritage Asset Listing but we think they should! These listings help identify and protect buildings, sites and landscapes for future generations.

Additional Information

Historic England issued guidance 'Local Heritage Listing' Advice Note 7, dated May 2016; "Local lists play an essential role in building and reinforcing a sense of local character and distinctiveness in the historic environment".

Assets could include buildings, woodland, sunken lanes, verges and waysides, waterways, long barrows, gardens, hedgerows or other habitats and settings. Listing these assets would help identify them during Local Authority planning processes and preserve them.
