Re-classify addiction and alcoholism as a mental health issue
Alcoholism and addiction are the symptoms of an underlying mental health issue. Currently the only option for sufferers of this disease only have expensive private rehabilitation clinics or long waiting lists with local charities. Acknowledging this will help people seek earlier intervention.
Addiction and alcoholism fits the well established medical model which is used to define a disease.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. There are NHS services available for a range of addictions and the NHS acknowledges the psychological, as well as the physical, aspects of addiction. You can find out more about available NHS services here:

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do, for example a petition calling for increased funding for dedicated NHS mental health services for people with addictions, if that's something you'd like to happen.
