Petition Action

Save our BBC

Petition Details

An independent and trustworthy source of news, current affairs and information is a fundamental pillar of our democracy. In an age of fake news and big data it is vital we protect the BBC from government interference. Don't let the current minority government reduce it to a subscription service.

Additional Information

Of course the BBC is not perfect, it has made mistakes like any other organisation. However, the key principals which established it remain as important today as ever. It is recognised globally for producing high quality, broadly impartial news, information and entertainment. This is key to our democracy and global reputation, it cannot be commodified, by making it chase 'customers' in a Netflix style funding model. You only have to look at commercially driven US news to see what we would lose.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do relating to the BBC.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
