Any elected official changing political affiliation triggers a by-election
Voting is an expression of preference for a candidate for office representing the political beliefs of individual electors. Elected officials switching affiliations mid-term have effectively "stolen" the votes of those who elected them. They should be made to stand again in their new colours!
