STOP Planning for 2 Power stations in Oxfordshire

Petition Details

100 Megawatts of new fossil fuel power stations in Oxfordshire?
This proposal is to build two 49.99MW gas fired power stations in Oxfordshire supposedly to support the grid ‘in times of generation shortfall and/or high demand’. This has NOT been raised as an issue Nationally or locally.

Additional Information

A London developer is proposing to build two 49.99MW gas fired power stations in Oxfordshire near Tetsworth claiming these are needed to support the grid ‘in times of generation shortfall and/or high demand’. The two stations are put in as two applications, each just under 50MW, so as not to be ‘national infrastructure’ projects (at over 100MW).

This is a purely opportunistic development that undermines proposals for decarbonization of our power supply and flies in the face of the declaration of climate emergency by South Oxfordshire D.C. Any need for ‘balancing power’ stations to support renewable energy has never been properly discussed at a national level and there is no evidence that this development forms part of any coherent strategy.

Lets’ get this mad idea thrown out now.
