Petition Action

Revise the house-buying process in England to make it more efficient.

Petition Details

1. Sellers must provide information upfront.
2. When a bid has been successful, the buyer's solicitor should confirm their mortgage with the lender, agree an entry date and deal with legal enquiries about the property. This is legally binding with deposit paid.

Additional Information

There is a widespread belief that the house buying process in England is unnecessarily long, stressful and tedious. The current process of instructing solicitors, applying for searches, resolving enquiries before then exchanging contracts and then agreeing dates of completion is convoluted and unnecessarily complex. This then puts a strain on families and discourages people from moving which then stunts the real-estate industry and national economy.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand you're concerned about the house-buying process but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure exactly what you mean by providing information upfront or what information you're concerned about.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
