Compulsory eyesight test & medical for drivers over 70
From the age of 70 and every three years thereafter people reapplying for their driving license to produce an 'eyesight competence certificate' signed by a qualified optician and a 'certificate of medical fitness to drive' signed by a qualified doctor before their license is renewed.
The eyesight test would be free as it is at present, but the cost of the medical examination would be borne by the applicant and carried out by a DVLA appointed doctor for a set fee.
